foen is a video phone in a web page. No account, no app to install, no charge. You get a number, you share it with the people you want to hear from, and you call each other.
Your first visit
Open the page in a current browser. Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Samsung Internet from 2026 all work. Older browsers show a message saying which update fixes it.
The page shows twelve recovery words. Write them down and keep them somewhere safe. They are not shown again and they are not kept anywhere but your paper. With them you can get the same number back on another device. Without them, a lost device means a new number.
Press I have written them down. Your number appears under Your number. It looks like a long telephone number, seven groups of three digits.
Sharing your number
Nobody can find your number unless you give it to them. Press Share my number with a friend. On a phone this opens your usual sharing options; on a computer it copies the link. A friend who opens the link gets their own number if they have none, and a button that calls you.
You can also read the number out, or write it on a card. A friend types it into or type a number and presses Call.
Making a call
Press Call next to a name, or the big button for the last person you spoke to.
The first time, the browser asks to use your camera and microphone. Allow it.
You hear ringing. When the other side answers, you see each other.
Mute silences your microphone, Camera off hides your picture, Hang up ends the call. Tap the picture to fill the screen.
Answering a call
Keep the page open. When someone calls, the whole screen shows Incoming call from their name, with a big Answer button. Not now declines, and a Call back button stays on the page so you can return the call later. If the page is not open, the call is missed; there is no voicemail yet.
Setting up a tablet for someone else
This is the one page to follow if you are setting foen up for a relative or a resident who will not do it themselves.
Open Chrome on the tablet and go to homefoen.com. That address is foen with no advertising at all, in the light look: black on white, large, nothing moving.
Write the twelve words on a card for the person's file, then press I have written them down.
Type the person's name under the phone book and press List me only if they want to be found by name. Otherwise skip it: the number is enough.
In Chrome's menu choose Add to Home screen. A foen icon appears on the tablet, and opening it goes straight to the page.
Make one test call so the camera and microphone permissions are granted and remembered.
Send the person's number to the family, by pressing Share my number with a friend or by copying it from the page.
After that, the person only ever presses Answer, or the big button with their family member's name on it.
Getting your number back on a new device
Open the page, open details, type the twelve words in order under Restore from words, and press the button. The same number comes back. The old device keeps working too until you clear it.
When something does not work
"This browser cannot hold your number safely yet." Update the browser. Samsung Internet needs version 30 or later; otherwise open the page in Chrome.
No picture or sound from you. Check the browser allowed the camera and microphone. Under details you can pick which microphone and camera to use; a docking station or a monitor can show up as a microphone that hears nothing.
The other side cannot hear you, or you hear a delay. Both sides connect to the same relay. Under details the numbers show what is arriving. A round trip of a few hundred milliseconds is normal between countries.
The call ends by itself after ten seconds of silence. The other side's page stopped sending, usually because it was closed or the device went to sleep. Call again.
Calls do not ring on a tablet. The page must be open. The screen may go dark but the page keeps listening as long as it is the one showing when the tablet wakes.
What foen is not
There is no account, so there is nothing to log into and nothing to reset. There is no company that can look up your number for you: the words are the only way back. There is no charge and no subscription. The service is paid for by advertising on the idle screen, never during a call; it is an image we host and a link we chose, and it can be turned off under details.
